I just can't express how much I appreciate the incredible amount of help and support you guys all gave me over the weekend, it was most unexpected and higly appreciated! I'll never forget coming into that first transition and looking for Kylie by herself only to find 4 of you standing there ready to guide me through, it was like being in a big team and really lifted me!
I'm still blown away by the particularly amazing efforts of some of you, your help and support affected me in ways you can't imagine and I won't forget what you did for me:
Kylie; You were there for me the entire 24hrs, every transition (bar that stupid 1st half lap :)). And for every weekend I played absent father and husband over the last 12 weeks, during that time you only ever had words of encouragement, never complaint. Without you I never could have entered, let alone made it through. You stopped your own race to be there for me, and when I was completely blown up and couldn't even think straight, you had what I needed to keep me going. Dad; As you live in QLD, I didn't quite expect you to be there, so a) I was blown away at the 1st transition to see you there (I can't believe you and Kylie kept that from me)! I thought I was hallucinating, which was a concern given it only my first lap! :) Then you stayed until well into the night, you were there for my best and worst on the day and your help was priceless.
Bec; For hour after hour and well into the morning/witching hours I would come into transition and there would always be a smiling face with a something funny to say to lift my spirits, and your warm face washer was the best feeling I had that whole weekend! And pass onto Nathan again a big thanx for the bandaids on my hands... even with them my hands are still a mess, I hate to imagine what they would be like if hadn't gone to the trouble of going to the shops for me during the race.
Drew; Mate, for a captain of another team and a guy that ran his own PB performance at the race, I dunno how, but unexpectadally you were there for me when I needed you several times on the day. Running my middle 7 laps with no back gears was pretty trying stuff, and I don't think you can understand how much you changed the race for me by fixing my rear derailuer on Sunday morning, for my last few laps I had 27 speeds again and I can tell you, I was in heaven!
Simon and Dan (and Drew again!); You guys all waited for me at transition to pull me around the course on my last laps. The emotional support of some mateys for my last laps was awesome, although Dan, mate, I thankyou, and I want to kill you at the same time, you fried me mate! :D LOL
Nicole, we'd never even met before, yet there you were to help Kylie at transition many times. That blew me away.
I have no doubt I missed someone there, I know there were other many many gestures of help (eg: Brad's supply of Gu and Gels for the last laps when I'd run out of my own and couldn't face solid food, I couldn't have done the last few laps without that help for example). So if I missed you, it's only because my brain is alittle messed up right now and I'm sorry :)
I really learned that there is no such thing as a solo entry in a race like that, it takes a team of amazing people and I was just blown away by how much support you guys gave me on the day, it was unexpected and highly highly appreciated.
I'll never forget what you did, it was generous and helpful beyond what you can imagine.
So thankyou!
