What you did this weekend is one of the hugest challenges any athlete can put themselves through. It bears remembering that when they first started running 24 hour races there was no solo category because people said it couldn't be done. It wasn't until some nutbag entered a team of 3 folks who all had names and signatures similar to his and went out and did it anyway, that solo 24 hour racing was born. Even the big Ironman triathlons they close off after 16 hours. These are run by very fit people and if they think that 16 is bordering on the endurance limit the 24 is just amazing. I really wish that Ky had come to wake me up in the middle of the night so I could have sorted your gears then. If I'd have known, I would have been there in a shot. And no supply of pancakes either! 6 laps of that track running 3 speed!!!! WTF???? Glad to have been there to offer encouragement, a smiling face, what bike service I did (and a cute butt in a pink skirt to focus on for half a lap before you stepped it up and left me like I was standing still!) Anyhow, you're a dead set legend. Hugest of congrats. You worked bloody hard for this one and the results show. Respect, Drew (silla) ---- From: "Michael Reed" Date: Mon, 9 Oct 2006 12:48:47 +1000 Subject: Re: Thankyou Hey Jason, You Da Man!!! We are all very impressed at your result, and even more so at your preparation and support. Emily and I checked out the folder Kylie was using - great planning dude! Plus all the weekly riding, and weekend epics... Watching you during the 24 hours, I noticed just how much fun you were having, and how you revelled in the challenge of going out and doing another lap. I didn't even notice the results until late morning on Sunday (it was hard enough just preparing for the next lap!), so when Kylie said you were coming 15th AND becoming delirious, we were more than a little worried. But then the sun rose, your body kicked back into gear, and your lap times started returning to normal - scarily fast! I don't know how you do it, and still keep a smile on your face :) Cheers, Michael -- From: "John McAvoy" Date: Tue, 10 Oct 2006 10:41:04 +1000 Subject: Re: Thankyou Hi Mate, It was a fantastic experience for me on the weekend. To see you achieve your dream was something special. To not only see how physically tough you where but to see how mentally tough you where was inspiring.I am so proud of you. Kylie was so unselfish and so worried about you, to watch her go about looking after you showed what a loving relationship you 2 have. Congratulations on a mighty effort which no doubt you will remember with pride for the rest of your life. I would not even contemplate doing the 24hr solo and for you to be able to not only give it a go but place well in the results shows an amazing sense of character. If you get anything out of cycling like I do, doing things like this proves you can do anything you set your mind too. -- From: "Mackenzie, Jodie N" Date: Mon, 9 Oct 2006 11:31:22 +0930 Subject: Huge CONGRATULATIONS!!! Was thinking of you both on Saturday night. Absolutely in awe of your amazing dedication and accomplishments You are both amazing and inspirational (and not just in regards of the race) Lots of love Jodes -- From: Adam McGrath Date: Fri, 13 Oct 2006 12:29:34 +1000 Subject: Re: Mayyyyyyte Legend, that's right you are a legend. Mel (my better half) and I have both read your adventures (she thinks you are an awesome writer) and its about time you started giving yourself some raps dude. For your 1st attempt at solo its a bloody amazing result. The result of a lot of hard work and good friends.
