Sleeping with the Enemy
I've just gotten back from racing the Mawson Marathon, pairing up with my arch nemesis Brett Bellchambers to take on 360km of the Flinders Ranges.
We worked really well together and when one of us was low, the other would take the lead and tow, and vice versa. Doing an endurance race with a friend made it all the more fun, especially a clown like Brett :D
We were hoping to hang on to the lead teams, but a flat tyre and broken chain in the first couple of hours had us off the back, while the other teams bunched up and worked together against the wind. This never worried us though and we just rode our race at our own pace, soaking up the gorgeous views and sharing many laughs.
The time went quickly and before we knew it we were halfway, and got news that we had mad up the time we had lost on the other teams and attacked, slowly reeling Team Torq in, by the 200k point we were almost on them, by the 290k point we had caught them and shared pleasantries, but guys like these don't just roll over and let you by; they fought back, and hard! We gave it 100% all the way to the last town when it became apparent that we weren't going to be able to get past them and gave up chasing, which was very frustrating after 6 hours of chasing and closing the gap, but that's racing I guess!
We ended up settling for 4th place and our prize was an awesome pizza at Booleroo Centre, which is not too bad I guess ;)
