I nice little Namadgi cruise today, I parked at the foot of Mt Tennant to save the time riding out from home and headed up the awesome climb to Honey Suckle, it's a long bugger but very manageable. The flys have come out since winter though and they were all over me for the slow 1hr climb up.
At the top I mistakenly pushed past the camp ground and up to the old observatory site looking for the trail head, it's actually back in the main camp ground and is a major fire trail so easy to see, d'oh!
Once on the firetrail, I'd also figured it would be all down hill to Orroral, but it's not, there's another 200vm to go before you hit the turn off to Orroral, which is nicely sign posted, from here it's all down hill though and it's a screamer, fast, flowy and loaded with water bars and flat out fast fast sections, it's reminicent of Smokers Trail.
At the bottom it's a nice cruise across Orroral Valley, and then upto Fitz Hill, where I was determined to break the 80km/h barrier on the way down, this time I didn't have a camel back on so was a little more aerodynamic than previous visits I suppose, because I cracked out an 81.6km/h top end, weeeeeeeee! It was awesome, what a rush!
On a sad note, the top speed came at the tight right hander at the botttom, where last week a compeditor died in the Fitz's Challenge, the spot ominously marked with some flowers :(
From there it's a gentle cruise back to the car as the Sun set in the West, I had an ear to ear grin, a top afternoon out!
