It was pissing down and Simon and I were still keen to give Tuggeranong Pines and Mt Melrose a run... I had spotted these awesome tracks from the air when coming back from Melbourne last week, from what I could see they were right behind Tuggers Pines. What I didn't notice was the Train Line and cliff face between Tuggers and the tracks :) We rode from the Old Tuggeranong Rd car park straight up the side of Tuggers Pines to the top, where we hit the train line and 8m cliff that stopped us going any further East :( With the impending rain, we decided to give up on getting over there and headed south along the back of the pines and rode straight up to the top of Mt Melrose on grassy tracks. The trig station was a fairly easy climb, and offered a great view of the oncoming thunderstorm...a reminder to get our butts back to the car while we were still relatively dry :) We headed in a striaght line back from Mt Melrose to the cars on the grassy (and rocky) hillside. Great fun in the dry, but even more challenging for bald rear tyres trying to grip the wet grass :) A fun ride, but want to get over to the good tracks next time. Will check out some maps and find my way over the train line next time. Time: 52mins Dist: 5.1kms (slow climbs and long breaks!) |
