A perfect sunny Canberra day greeted us for yet another variant on this classic Canberra ride. Opting for dry feet we decided on a shortened version of the CORC Brindabella Social Ride from last year, that is up Warks and then the full length of Two Sticks, parking at Uriarra Homestead instead of at the Cottor.
The crew cruised casually along Warks road, it.s such a nice ride through here, much better than the freezing trips we had done in winter with snow and ice around, but summer does bring the flies, and for the long climb up Warks, they buzzed around like flies on, well you know ;)
On the way up Neil, Adam and I joked about how only silly buggers race each other on ride like these, and as grown men we had no need to do such things, but after the final food and chat stop, the crew got faster and faster, and I was tailing Neil and Adam and they were doing some impressive climbing, so at Old Mill Road, I made my move and turned it up to full volume, very mature of me I know! :)
It made a bit fun out of the climb and before we knew it, we were at top in around 2 hours, with a nice long stop to fuel up and tell tales, we were set for the awesome 30kms of mostly downhill Two Sticks.
We opted to climb Mt Coree, everyone making up, where the sun had come out and the day was warming up. Sheltered under the shade of the fire tower, we had a good bite to eat and shared stories of the gnarly climb to the summit and how far we.d gotten before we had to walk, all lies ofcourse!
Then it was on for young and old between Dan and myself, that Ibis Mojo he is rolling is an impressive beast for sure, it started on the way down Mt Coree, I could hear him catching me, corner after corner, eventually he was on my wheel and I let him go, I tried to keep up, but forget it, he was way too fast.
Onto Two Sticks for the remaining 20 odd kms and Dan lead the way with me chasing like a dog after the postman. He was on fire though, and no amount of stomping on the big ring would help me catch him, that boy.s on fire on the downs, I just tried to keep up and watch the entertaining show!
At the bottom it was smiles all round for that is by the far the most fun one can have on a firetrail for that long, it was awwwwesome.
A nice roadie cool down back to the cars and we.re done, no mechanicals or major dramas (bar Adam running a little low sugar wise), all in all, a top day out!
Thanx boys!
